Homecoming: Lost in Space

Homecoming%3A+Lost+in+Space

Homecoming. A night to remember. Excitement filled the first floor of BIM as high school students gleamed over the decorations. The homecoming committee could not have done a better job. The two photo booths evoked the theme of space since blow-up aliens appeared in every corner and sparkling planets glistened from the ceiling. Everyone began by talking to their friends, eating snacks and taking pictures. Soon enough, the DJ started to play music and students made their way to the dance floor. Many song requests were made and students were dancing in a circle. I asked Mellis O. how the night was going and she replied, “Great! Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves and it’s a wonderful night.” Teacher chaperones even began to dance with the students, too.

Finally, the news everyone had been waiting for arrived: Homecoming Court. Students beamed with eagerness to find out who had won. Anahit H, a junior and co-president of the homecoming committee, stood in front of the crowd to announce the winners. For freshman, Annabella and Brandon won. Cheers filled the crowd as the homecoming royalty made their way to the front. Next came the sophomores. Soumil and Christine’s names were announced and all of the sophomore boys were ecstatic. For the juniors, Melody and Daniel won. Melody had a bright smile across her face as she was handed the sash. Last but not least, the seniors. The crowd became quiet as Anahit opened the final envelope. Devin and Fiona’s names were called and everyone instantly began jumping and screaming. Devin and Fiona both had looks of shock on their faces as they made their way to the front of the dance floor. They received their crowns, and then Devin was handed the microphone to say a few words. He ended his short speech with “I got a 1470 on my SAT so I never have to take it again”, and the crowd went wild. Everyone was cheering, screaming and jumping around the queen and kings.

Overall, homecoming was a success. Thank you to the homecoming committee as well as other teachers and students who contributed to this amazing night.
