If you are an avid reader of our paper, we are sure you have been wondering where we have been for the past few months. Articles have become nostalgic, pictures have become memories, and games are not updated. We can hear everybody asking themselves, “When will my favorite newspaper return to its former glory?”
Well, we have great news, because the BASIS Independent McLean (BIM) Bulletin is back, with a whole new leadership team ready to revitalize the paper! After a lot of planning, bureaucracy, and awkward meetings, we have ironed out a brand new system for the newspaper that will ensure that our readers can always read something informative and entertaining. Hopefully, we can match the former acclaim our predecessors brought to the BIM Bulletin. There is a lot that has changed, and it is best to start by introducing ourselves.
Meet the New Staff
With our new staff, we hope to bring a newfound vigor and enthusiasm to the BIM Bulletin and bring more fun articles and stories to readers’ eyes. If we do our job well, then you are bound to love an article by one of our many writers and editors.
Eli Tabb – Editor-in-Chief
Eli Tabb is an 11th grade student at BIM, passionate about politics and Playboi Carti. He earned his passion for writing in 7th grade, when all of his teachers told him he wrote too much on simple essays or assignments (some still do to this day). Since then, he has been a voracious reader and strong essay writer, and he brings his appreciation for depth and excessive detail to the BIM Bulletin.
Brayden Bagla – Editor-in-Chief
Brayden Bagla is an 11th grade student at BIM, passionate about Biology and Mathematics. He earned his passion for writing when he began working on the BIM Yearbook Team in 7th grade. For the yearbook, he would have to write a body copy for each of the pages and that fostered his passion for writing for the “news” purpose. In addition to serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the BIM Bulletin, Brayden leads the BIM Swim Team, BIM Yearbook Team, and is the Vice Captain of the BIM Science Olympiad Team.
Mr. Haines – Faculty Advisor
Mr. Haines is a BIM history teacher, most notably helping students comprehend US History and Government systems. As a past editor in his high school’s newspaper, he understands the nuance of running a newspaper and the dedication it takes to write engaging articles. He plans to grow the newspaper year over year with the ultimate goal or dream of having a print newspaper at BASIS Independent McLean.
When asked about his motivation for reviving the BIM Newspaper, his experience advising this year’s team, and his hopes for student-writers and the BIM community, Mr. Haines shared: “I just think back to my time in high school and how much I enjoyed working for my school’s paper. I have seen how a school newspaper can bring a community together, and so I was happy to aid in that effort here at BIM.”
Of course, these are only some of the many editors and writers behind the entire newspaper. We encourage navigating to the staff tab to learn more about the other amazing staff we have working behind the scenes. And who knows, maybe you will fall in love with their work!
New Sections
Along with the new staff, you may have also noticed some new headings in the newspaper. Each section has its own unique character to it, and maybe one will resonate more than another.
If you are looking for updates on BIM happenings and events, check out the News section to read about anything going on on campus. Also, look there for writers covering current events in our community and country you may not have heard about.
If you want to hear about our writers’ opinions on current events or trends, take a look at the Opinion section . You might disagree with some ideas you come across, but that is the glory of the section.
If you are curious about what your classmates are up to, take a look at the Student Work section. There we will be posting articles on student presentations, clubs, activities, classwork, and more. Maybe you will learn your friend did an activity you never knew about!
If you are looking for a fun article on pop culture, music, or current shows, the Entertainment section has what you are looking for. Similarly, if you are looking for updates on a BIM sports game you missed or news about the wider sports world, take a look over at the Sports section.
Finally, if you are looking to learn something from an expert, look to the Features section. The most passionate writers are there, writing deep, thoughtful articles about niche topics for your learning.
Expectations
Settling into our positions, we hope to bring our readers the best experience we can, whether it be through a fun game, a funny article, or a cool picture. Regardless, we promise to keep the paper as robust as possible. If you have any suggestions for additions or if you want to write, always let us know! We are more than willing to listen.
